It tends to be lightweight, strong, and virtually free of defects. These qualities are what make this plywood a popular choice for building boats and boat parts. It&#8217;s also a smart option for durable outdoor furniture projects in coastal areas, especially after it receives a strong protective finish.<\/p>\n<p>LBI carries Meranti, Okoume and Douglas Fir plywoods in several sizes and thicknesses.<\/p>\n<p>Marine plywood is also a main component in stitch-and-glue boat building. This technique uses marine plywood and epoxy. Plywood panels are held together with wire stitching while the seams are &#8220;glued&#8221; with epoxy and fiberglass tape.\u00a0 Once everything is cured, the stitching is removed and the outside of the boat may then be treated. It can be laminated with fiberglass cloth or layered with more plywood, depending on how thick one would like the the hull.<\/p>\n<p>LBI&#8217;s 1102\/2105 Epoxy with hardener kits are ideal for this type of construction.\u00a0 We also carry the non water absorbing fillers needed to make a thicker glue and several different weights of cloth.<\/p>\n<h3>Meranti Plywood:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Tough stable water proof panel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Equal or nearly equal laminations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Made with water and boil proof (WBP) glue.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Face veneers are one piece<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Grain is fairly even and straight.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Harder, rot resistant and makes a stiffer panel.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Good structural plywood for bottoms and larger boats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">May also use for decks, freezers, signs, exterior structures, cabinets and other construction<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Okoume Plywood:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">A fast-growing tropical hardwood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Has clear, beautifully-figured grain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Low density yields ultra-lightweight hulls.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Essential for home built kayaks and small craft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Used for building racing boats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">May be used for building furniture or on cabinets because of its appearance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Must be sealed to keep moisture out.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Douglas Fir Marine Plywood<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">For boats that won\u2019t be varnished.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Quality is uniformly good.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Widely available domestically grown marine-grade plywood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">A heavier weight wood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Should be sealed in fiberglass or epoxy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Used for heavy boats that need to be strong and rot-resistant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\">Used for lapstrakes and hull planking.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other thicknesses of plywood may be available, please call to inquire about pricing and availability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marine Plywood Marine-grade plywood is a good-quality, hardwood plywood made with waterproof glue.
