{"id":230,"date":"2018-02-20T13:36:57","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T13:36:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lbifiberglass.com\/dev\/?p=230"},"modified":"2020-03-05T21:40:02","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T21:40:02","slug":"catalyst-ranges-for-resins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbifiberglass.com\/dev\/catalyst-ranges-for-resins\/","title":{"rendered":"CATALYST RANGES FOR RESINS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Catalyst Ranges for 301, 301W, 302, 303 &amp; 305 Resins<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses LBI-321 MEKP<\/li>\n<li>5-15cc per Quart of Resin, 20-60cc per Gallon of Resin.<\/li>\n<li>This range is between .5%-2%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Catalyst Ranges for 304, 306, 307, 308 &amp; 309 ISO Gelcoats<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses LBI-321 MEKP<\/li>\n<li>10-20cc per Quart of Resin, 40-80cc per Gallon of Gelcoat.<\/li>\n<li>This range is between 1%-2%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Catalyst Ranges for 901, 902, 585, 555 &amp; H197P Resins<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses LBI-391 MEKP(<strong>H197P uses LBI-321<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>15-30cc\u00a0 MEKP per quart of resin, 60-120cc MEKP per Gallon of Resin.<\/li>\n<li>This range is between 1.5%-3.0%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>A Guide for Catalyst Levels<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The amount of catalyst added to the resin determines how hot the reaction gets.<\/li>\n<li>Heat is what causes the resin to cure.<\/li>\n<li>In cool weather (55-60F) catalyze resins in the mid to high range:\n<ul>\n<li>301, 301W, 302, 303 &amp; 305 resins at 10-15cc per quart, 40-60cc per gallon<\/li>\n<li>ISO Gelcoats at 15-20cc per quart, 60-80cc per gallon<\/li>\n<li>901, 902, 585, 555 &amp; H197P 20-30cc per quart, 80-120cc per gallon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In hot weather (75-90F) catalyze resins in the low to mid range:\n<ul>\n<li>301, 301W, 302, 303 &amp; 305 5-10cc per quart, 20-40cc per gallon<\/li>\n<li>ISO Gelcoats 10-15cc per quart, 40-60cc per gallon<\/li>\n<li>901, 902, 585, 555 &amp; H197P 15-20cc per quart, 60-80cc per gallon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fiberglassing below 50F is not recommended unless you have some method of warming the resins and materials to room temperature(<a href=\"https:\/\/lbifiberglass.com\/dev\/cold-weather-and-fiberglassing\/\"><strong>See Fiberglassing in Cold Weather Tech Guide<\/strong><\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If your resin is still hardening too quickly in higher temperatures try chilling your resin in a cooler or refrigerator<strong>(DO NOT FREEZE YOUR RESIN!)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>REMEMBER:<\/strong>\u00a0 THE MORE CATALYST YOU USE AT A GIVEN TEMPERATURE THE FASTER THE CURE!<\/li>\n<li>NEVER CATALYZE RESIN BELOW THE MINIMUM RECOMMENDED QUANTITY!<\/li>\n<li>BE ORGANIZED AND HAVE ALL YOUR TOOLS AND SUPPLIES READY!
